The Mojave Road in 1863 showcases the 1863-1864 glass plate negative images taken by photographer Rudolph d’Heureuse during his travels along the Mojave Road—from Drum Barracks at the Port of Los Angeles to the mines of Eldorado Canyon on the Colorado River. Complemented by contemporary newspaper accounts, these amazing 155-year-old images of an early and wild Mojave Desert were produced only 25 years after the invention of photography.
